Artist tells of nervous wait for Queen to see portrait
A portrait of the Queen by an acclaimed Northern Ireland artist is set to be unveiled by the Queen herself at a reception in London.
Belfast-born artist Colin Davidson has painted portraits of many famous celebrities including Liam Neeson, Seamus Heaney and Jamie Dornan. The 48-year-old even painted a portrait of Angela Merkel for the cover of Time Magazine last year.
But his most recent portrait, commissioned by Cooperation Ireland, depicts the Queen and will be revealed at Crosby Hall in London on November 8.
Mr Davidson told the Belfast Telegraph he is both nervous and excited about the event.
"I suppose the most nerve-wracking bit for me is going to be the moment when she unveils the actual painting.
"It is my hope that she identifies with the painting in the way which I set out to do."
