Barlow steps in as show 'super-sub'

X Factor judge Gary Barlow has agreed to step in as last-minute headliner for a major show in Hyde Park - after top of the bill Lionel Richie pulled out.

The Take That idol said he was approached by Radio 2 breakfast host Chris Evans to play the major London gig for the station, which takes place on Sunday.

Barlow said: "It's a pleasure to step in last minute and cover for Mr Richie."

Dancing On The Ceiling star Richie had to pull out of the Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park show due to illness.

Disco act Chic, who had a string of hits in the 1970s, have also been lined-up to play the show.

Barlow has been playing a series of stadium shows to record-breaking audiences throughout the summer with Take That, as well as juggling his X Factor duties.

He said: "Chris called me and said Lionel had had to pull out because he was ill and they had a hole in the show, so I was more than happy to help out."

Evans said: "What an incredible line up - thanks to super-sub Gary Barlow who is now the icing on what was already a pretty special cake."

The bill also features Will Young, Bellowhead, Jools Holland and The Pierces.
