Baronet reveals shock at son death
A baronet has described his shock after his teenage son apparently shot himself dead while talking to a police officer on the phone.
Alexander Codrington, the 16-year-old son of aristocrat Sir Christopher, is believed to have killed himself as armed police searched for him after he disappeared in woodland.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an inquiry into officers' involvement in the incident in Leafield, near Witney, Oxfordshire.
Speaking at the family home in Fordwells, near Witney, Sir Christopher said the family were still receiving information over the circumstances of Alexander's death.
When asked whether it was an appalling shock, he said: "Yes, of course. We appreciate the support.
"We are receiving a lot of support but we want to get the facts clear before releasing a full statement."
Relatives were too upset to give any further comment.
