Ben Fogle 'fights off mugger'

Television presenter Ben Fogle has escaped with only bruises after fighting off a mugger.

The serial adventurer wrote on Twitter how he had fought back when a chancer tried to snatch his briefcase.

He said: "Dear Mr Mugger. You picked on the wrong man. Enjoy the black eye. Love Ben."

The tweet to his 105,000 followers prompted numerous concerned messages from followers.

But the 40-year-old used the attention to reassure fans and shine the spotlight on the international effort to rescue nearly 300 Nigeria school girls.

He added: "Thanks for concerned messages. I'm fine. Suit scuffed and knuckles bruised. WAY more importantly #BringBackOurGirls #NigerianSchoolgirls"

In addition to television presenting, Fogle's expeditions have included rowing across the Atlantic and racing to the South Pole together with Olympic rowing gold medallist James Cracknell.
