Blanche best-loved Corrie character
Sharp-tongued Blanche Hunt has beaten Weatherfield legends such as Hilda Ogden and Elsie Tanner to be named Coronation Street's best-loved character of all time.
The battleaxe, who was written out of the show this year following the real-life death of actress Maggie Jones a year ago, topped the Inside Soap poll.
Ogden (played by Jean Alexander) came second, while Vera Duckworth (Liz Dawn) - who recently made a brief return to the show as a ghost - took third place.
Blanche was chosen by almost a third of the 1,000 readers who took part in the survey.
Raven-haired beauty Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) was named sexiest female Street star of all time, followed by Carla Connor (Alison King) and original tart-with-a-heart Elsie (Pat Phoenix).
Hottest male star was Liam Connor (played by Rob James Collier), who polled more than a third of the votes. Ciaran McCarthy (Keith Duffy) was runner-up, with Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward) third.
Soap fans were asked to name their favourite figures from the show, as well as notable moments from episodes over the past half-century.
Coronation Street celebrates its 50th anniversary next week.
Readers picked Bet Lynch (Julie Goodyear) as the best barmaid of the Rovers Return. And the ever popular duo Jack and Vera Duckworth (Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn) were named favourite couple, pulling in more than half the votes.
Steven Murphy, editor of Inside Soap magazine, said: "Our survey shows the overwhelming affection people have for Coronation Street, with many claiming they know the characters on the street even better than their own neighbours."
