Blatter hits out at major sponsors' calls for him to quit
Fifa president Sepp Blatter will not resign ahead of February's emergency presidential election despite calls from major sponsors Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Visa.
A statement from Blatter's lawyer said: "While Coca-Cola is a valued sponsor, Mr Blatter respectfully disagrees with its position and believes firmly that leaving office now would not be in the best interest of Fifa."
The sponsors' intervention came a week after the 79-year-old was placed under criminal investigation by Swiss authorities for alleged financial wrongdoing at football's world governing body, which he has led since 1998.
Mr Blatter told his staff earlier this week that he was determined to remain in power until the election.
