'Body found' in student search city

Police are responding to reports of a body in the River Wear, close to where missing student Euan Coulthard was last seen over a week ago.

The 19-year-old had been out for an Italian meal in Durham with friends on Wednesday evening and then went to the Loveshack nightclub, which he left before midnight.

CCTV images show who the police believe to be Mr Coulthard, who is from Nottingham, walking through the city centre and crossing Framwellgate Bridge.

Footage then shows someone believed to be the law student heading down steps next to the Bishop Langley pub, towards the river.

Durham Constabulary said they were responding to reports of a body in the river near the bridge and specialist marine diving units would be attending.

Following his disappearance fellow students and friends joined police officers in extensive searches of the city centre.

A petition to improve riverbank safety has also been launched as in the last 15 months, Sope Peters and Luke Pearce, also students at Durham University, drowned in the river after nights out.
