A 16-year-old boy has died after falling from cliffs.

Northumbria Police said officers responded to reports of the incident at Spittal Point, Berwick, Northumberland, from the ambulance service.

A spokesman said the emergency services were called out at 3.06am today and recovered the teenager from the sea.

He said the boy was taken t o Wansbeck General Hospital, in Ashington, where he later died.

The spokesman said: "Enquiries are in the early stages to establish the circumstances."
