Brave swimmers take to the water

Revellers have braved the weather to go for a Christmas swim.

Dozens turned out at Boscombe Pier in Bournemouth for the White Christmas Dip.

They wore fancy dress for the annual event, which is held to raise money for Macmillan Caring Locally.

Most wore outfits suited to the cold temperatures but a handful of hardy participants took to the water wearing normal swimming costumes.

There was no wrapping up for those competing in the Peter Pan Cup race at the Serpentine in Hyde Park, in London.

Members of the Serpentine Swimming Club took part in the contest, with some wearing Santa hats.

The race was won by Alan Mitchell and his victory in the 100-yard race was greeted with cheers from spectators.
