Brit Award nominees to be announced

Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith are among the stars expected to be recognised tonight as the nominees for the Brit Awards are announced.

Both chart-toppers have enjoyed phenomenal success around the world and have been among the most-played performers over the past year.

Other names likely to figure on the shortlists for the awards are Rather Be and Real Love hitmakers Clean Bandit as well as Mercury Prize nominees Royal Blood.

The names will be announced at an event being staged at the ITV Studios in London, which will also be filmed by the channel and broadcast later tonight.

The awards event - officially called the Brit Awards 2015 with MasterCard - are one of the biggest nights in the music business calendar and the ceremony will be staged once again at the O2 Arena in London.

Performers on the night, when the awards actually take place on February 25, will include Sheeran, Smith and Taylor Swift, as well as Royal Blood and George Ezra.

Tonight's nominations launch will see live appearances by Clean Bandit and this year's Critics' Choice Award winner James Bay.
