British toddlers killed in Spanish crash
Two British toddlers have been killed in a car crash in northern Spain, police have said.
The children, named by sources as two-year-old Amir Khan and his sister Amelle, aged one, died as a result of the car accident near Briviesca in the province of Burgos.
Their British mother, Gemma Martello, was taken to hospital with injuries, along with the |father, a French national, and two other children.
The family's car, a Renault Espace, reportedly plunged down a grass bank at the side of a motorway after smashing through the central reservation.
The crash happened overnight between Saturday and Sunday on the AP1 motorway, local traffic police said.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: “We can confirm the death of two British nationals and the hospitalisation of another in Burgos, northern Spain, on Saturday.
“We are providing consular assistance.”
Local police said an investigation into the accident was under way.
