Briton fatally stabbed in Barbados

A British man has been stabbed to death on the Caribbean island of Barbados, it was reported today.

The victim, who has not been named, was stabbed in the chest early yesterday morning, according to the newspaper Barbados Today.

He was said to have been involved in an altercation with a local man in St Lawrence Gap, Christ Church, in the south-west of the island, a lively tourist area.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, where he died from his injuries, the newspaper said.

A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are aware of the death of a British national in Barbados on June 15.

"We are providing consular assistance to the family at this sad time."
