Armed police were called to one of London's busiest railway stations after reports that a man had a gun in his pocket.

Parts of Liverpool Street station were closed while officers from British Transport Police (BTP), the Metropolitan Police and City of London Police searched for the man but no-one was found.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: "We were called to Liverpool Street station on Wednesday the 27th of May shortly before 4pm following a report that a man had been seen with a gun in his back pocket.

"Units from BTP, the Metropolitan Police and the City of London Police, including armed officers, all attended the station.

"Officers carried out a full search of the area but no-one matching the description provided was found."
