A woman whose body was found in a suitcase in a canal has been named as 23-year-old Marta Ligman, as a man was charged with her murder.

Although formal identification has not taken place, Scotland Yard said detectives are satisfied the dead woman is Ms Ligman, a Polish national of Buckingham Road in Brent, north-west London.

Her body was recovered from the Grand Union Canal in west London on Sunday.

Thomasz Kocik, 38, of Buckingham Road, Brent, will appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court this morning after he was charged with murder earlier today.

Kocik was arrested on Monday with two other men, aged 34 and 30, who have since been bailed.

Ms Ligman's next of kin have been informed of her death.

The Metropolitan Police said inquiries are continuing and asked anyone with information to contact officers.
