Cowell recognised as a 'true star'
X Factor supremo Simon Cowell has been recognised as "a true star" at a prestigious television festival.
Cowell will receive the Rose d'Or Golden Jubilee award on Wednesday at a ceremony in Lucerne, Switzerland, marking the festival's 50th anniversary.
Festival director Rolf Probala said: "The enormous success of Mr Cowell's formats and his on-screen charisma have made him one of the most important figures ever in entertainment television. It is rare for someone to have the combination of talents to succeed at both and he is a true star in our global business."
Cowell made his name as an acid-tongued judge on reality show Pop Idol, later creating The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent which established him as the king of Saturday night television and one of the most important men in showbusiness.
He also successfully crossed the Atlantic, becoming a household name in the US with his appearances on American Idol.
His backing helped make Susan Boyle a worldwide success and the Got Talent format is now screened in more than 40 countries.
