Dog attack boy, two, has surgery

A two-year-old boy has undergone surgery on his face after he was savaged by a family dog.

Emergency services were called to an address in Gilbert Road, Cummersdale, near Carlisle, at around 2.40pm on Wednesday, Cumbria Police said.

The toddler had suffered serious facial injuries and was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary where he underwent surgery.

Officers said the dog was placed in kennels pending a joint investigation with social services.

Its breed was not confirmed.
