Driver knocks down police officer

A plain-clothes police officer is being treated in hospital after he was knocked to the ground by a car after he tried to talk to the driver.

The incident happened in the Swan Walk multi-storey car park in Albion Way, Horsham, West Sussex, at about 12.15pm today..

The 59-year-old officer was taken to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, Surrey, where his condition is being assessed although it is not thought his injuries are serious.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: " Police are investigating an incident in which a police officer on duty was injured as he went to speak to another driver in a town centre car park in Horsham.

"At around 12.15pm on Saturday the plain-clothed officer approached the car in the Swan Walk multi-storey car park in Albion Way, Horsham. It drove away and he was knocked to the ground.

"The officer, 59, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, where he has been detained to allow a full assessment of his condition. His injuries are not thought to be serious."
