Footballer faces car damage charge
The captain of a Premier League football team is due in court charged with causing more than £4,000 damage to parked cars near the home of his club's arch-rivals.
Sunderland skipper Lee Cattermole will be before Newcastle Magistrates' Court to answer five charges of criminal damage.
He appeared on the same charges a fortnight ago but no pleas were entered as the prosecution requested an adjournment.
Cattermole, 23, from Aislaby, near Yarm, Teesside, was accused alongside Sunderland's Danish striking star Nicklas Bendtner, but the case against the on-loan Arsenal man was dropped.
The charges relate to five cars which were allegedly damaged on December 6 last year in Stowell Street, close to Newcastle United's Sports Direct Arena.
