Four people killed in car crash

A fourth person has died after a two-car crash in which a young girl and three other people were injured.

West Midlands Police said a 21-year-old man who had been in a critical condition had died in hospital.

Three women, aged 28, 35 and 40, were killed in the accident close to a bridge over the Walsall Canal in West Bromwich.

A police spokesman said the man who had died was a passenger in a Citroen Saxo which was in a crash with a Ford Fiesta in Greets Green Road at about 12.45am on Sunday.

Both vehicles were each carrying four people when the crash happened, killing a 40-year-old woman travelling in the Saxo and two other women travelling in the Fiesta.

Four other people - an 11-year-old girl, two women aged 28 and 36, and a 19-year-old man - survived the crash near an industrial estate.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent five ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle and its Hazardous Area Response Team to the accident, which happened on a straight section of carriageway near the brow of the bridge.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit on 0345 113 5000.
