Gibraltar gives resounding win for Remain campaign in night's first result
The first result from the referendum on whether Britain should stay in the European Union or leave is in and shows an overwhelming win for Remain.
Gibraltar voted by 19,322 votes to 823 to stay in the EU but the result is highly unlikely to be indicative of an overall result given that the overseas territory is on a peninsula bordering Spain.
The British territory, which is an hour ahead of the UK and relatively small, was also the first to announce the number of Gibraltarians who voted in the EU referendum - 20,174.
The turnout at the last general election in Gibraltar was just over 70%.
The government of the territory is strongly in favour of the UK remaining in the EU.
