Give Miliband a chance - Johnson

Labour heavyweight Alan Johnson has appealed to voters to give Ed Miliband a chance as he admitted the party leader lacked the flair and charisma of Tony Blair.

The former home secretary told the Daily Mirror: "I think Ed's obviously going to pale in comparison. It's awfully difficult in today's 24/7 media. Tony Blairs don't come along very often.

"You don't need all of those things - it's great to have them in a television age. That doesn't mean to say you're not the kind of deep-thinking person that can turn this country around."

He added: "Blair was called Bambi in opposition and that changed, mainly, when he was in government. And Ed is the only leader who isn't offering business as usual, so let's give the guy a chance."
