Grandfather faces baby murder trial

The trial of a man accused of murdering his baby granddaughter is set to start today.

Five-week-old Amelia Rose Jones died in November 2012 - two days after police had been called to a home in Pontnewydd, south Wales, following concerns over her health.

Mark Jones, 45, of Cwmbran, has pleaded not guilty to murder. His case is being heard before a jury at Newport Crown Court.

Yesterday, jurors were told the names of the 120-plus witnesses. They include Amelia's parents as well as several doctors, police and ambulance staff.

High Court judge Wyn Williams said he expects the trial to go on until the end of April.
