Hat's off to Duke of Edinburgh at his final awards
The Duke of Edinburgh has joked about being on his "last legs" as he attended his final Buckingham Palace presentation ceremony for his famous award scheme.
Hundreds of Duke of Edinburgh's Award gold recipients were invited to the palace's gardens, where a host of celebrities handed out certificates.
Wearing a panama hat against the hot summer sun, the Duke chatted to youngsters receiving their awards from TV chef Prue Leith, who was among more than a dozen stars supporting the award.
Philip shocked the nation when he announced earlier this month he will retire from official public duties at the end of the summer.
When he met the TV chef and she sympathised, saying this would be his "last year", the Duke replied to laughter: "I'm discovering what it's like to be on your last legs."
Leith said later: "That was just like him and he always likes to have the last word."
