In video: Lorry gets stuck under ancient Roman arch
The Newport Arch, built in 200AD, suffered ‘superficial scrapes’.
A lorry driver in Lincoln had to be rescued after his vehicle became jammed under an ancient archway.
The lorry was trapped under the Newport Arch which was built in AD200 on the road leading to York.
City of Lincoln Council planning manager Keiron Manning said they had been alerted by CCTV operators in the area who saw the vehicle was vehicle.
Once the tyres were let down on the vehicle, it was reversed out.
Mr Manning said the Grade-1 listed arch had suffered “a small number of superficial scrapes”, but that there was no permanent structural damage.
