Lost taser police officer suspended
A police officer has been suspended from his current duties after losing his taser device in the only Royal Park owned by The Crown Estate.
Thames Valley Police confirmed they are conducting a full internal investigation after the device was lost by the officer while leaving Windsor Great Park yesterday afternoon to attend an incident in Datchet, Berkshire.
Superintendent Steve Williams, head of the tactical firearms unit, said: "We believe the device was lost in Windsor Great Park prior to the officer exiting the park into Bishopsgate Road.
"An extensive search is taking place to locate it and although the device has no cartridges attached to it, there is still the potential for it to cause harm if used or handled incorrectly.
"If any member of the public should come across this device they need to contact Thames Valley Police immediately for us to recover it, as it is an offence to unlawfully possess this sort of device."
Windsor Great Park was once part of a vast Norman hunting forest which was enclosed in the late 13th century. The 5,000 acres of parkland includes a deer park, according to The Crown Estate website.
