Man arrested after 16-year-old killed when car hit pedestrians

The convertible is believed to have accidentally left the road in Croydon, hitting a group of teenagers.

A man has been arrested after a sports car struck pedestrians on a residential street, leaving a 16-year-old girl dead and six others injured.

The red Audi A3 convertible is believed to have accidentally veered off the road at a corner and hit seven teenagers in Croydon, south London.

One girl died at the scene while six other injured teenagers were taken to a number of London hospitals.

Officers arrested a man aged in his 30s on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after he attended a south London police station on Sunday afternoon.

A Met Police spokesman said: “At this early stage it is believed the car was travelling at speed before it lost control at a corner and collided with the pedestrians.

“At this time there is nothing to suggest the car was driven deliberately at the group.”
