A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a father was left fighting for his life in a suspected road rage attack.

T he 37-year-old driver suffered serious head injuries when he was allegedly punched following a minor collision in Kitts Green, Birmingham, at 6.30pm on Friday.

West Midlands Police believe the incident occurred after the drivers of a van and a car got out of their vehicles following a minor collision.

The van driver left the scene before officers arrived but, following a police appeal, a 29-year-old man from Solihull handed himself in at a local police station.

The driver was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition in an induced coma.

Detective Constable Katie Lees, from Birmingham's violent crime team, said the driver had left work and was on his way home to his partner and four-year-old child when the incident happened in Gressel Lane.
