Man arrested after stabbing murder

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after police were called to reports of an armed robbery.

Derbyshire Police said the 23-year-old man was also detained on suspicion of wounding after two men were stabbed in Ilkeston early today.

One if the victims was declared dead at the scene and roads have been closed while police investigate.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police were called to Charlotte Street at 5.35am today to reports of an armed robbery.

"A short time later, police received calls to say two men had been stabbed at a nearby address in the same street.

"One of the men, a 30-year-old, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second man was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with life-threatening injuries.

"A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and wounding with intent."

Police have closed a number of roads in the area while investigations are carried out, including Charlotte Street and stretches of Heanor Road, Cotmanhay Road and Norman Street.

Witnesses or anyone with information has been asked to call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.
