Man arrested over fatal pub assault

A man has been arrested after another man died following an assault at a pub.

Police officers were called to a disturbance at The Blossoms Pub, Rhos y Gaer Terrace, Holyhead, at around 4pm yesterday where a 24-year-old man had reportedly carried out an assault on a 46-year-old man, North Wales Police said.

Despite efforts by officers and paramedics to resuscitate the assaulted man he died at the scene.

Police said the 24-year-old suspect subsequently made his way onto the roof of the nearby Holland Inn where, following negotiations, officers were able to carry out an arrest.

He is being held in police custody whilst an investigation is launched.

Superintendent Andy Jenks-Gilbert said: "The investigation is at a very early stage but I would like to take this opportunity to reassure the public that there is no danger to local residents."

Police are appealing for witnesses - anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact North Wales Police on 101 or alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
