Man in court over teenagers' deaths
An unemployed sports coach was remanded in custody today charged with the manslaughter of two teenage girls who died after they were hit by a car.
Samuel Etherington, from Stoners Close, Gosport, Hampshire, made a five-minute appearance at Winchester Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.
The 20-year-old, dressed in a blue sports shirt and blue jumper, spoke only to confirm his name.
Etherington is alleged to have killed Jasmine Allsop, 14, and Olivia Lewry, 16.
Police were called to Ann's Hill Road in Gosport at 4.15am on Sunday following reports that a green Honda Civic had hit two girls.
Jasmine died at the scene, while Olivia died later after being taken to hospital.
Judge Guy Boney QC adjourned the case for a plea and case management hearing on January 3.
The defendant did not enter a plea and there was no application for bail.
