Man killed in motorway lorry crash

A man died when he was hit by a lorry after getting out of his car on the hard shoulder of a motorway.

Witnesses reported seeing the crash in lane one of the M20 near Ashford after the man stopped his car on the hard shoulder at 2.10pm yesterday, Kent Police said.

The London-bound carriageway between junctions 10 and 9 was closed until 8.15pm, causing long delays, to allow the incident to be fully investigated, a force spokeswoman said.

The lorry driver has not been arrested and a report is being prepared for the coroner.
