A man has died in what is thought to be a "tragic accident" while out hunting rabbits with a friend.

The 30-year-old, who has not yet been formally identified but is thought to be from Staffordshire, suffered a gunshot wound in the incident while hunting in fields in Brockton, near Bishop's Castle, in Shropshire.

West Mercia Police said he was fatally injured at about 9.30pm on Friday while "rabbiting with a colleague".

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A force spokesman said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances but at this stage it would appear to be a tragic accident."

The Coroner for Shropshire, John Ellery, has been informed and a post-mortem examination is likely to be carried out on Tuesday, the spokesman added.
