Man who changed ex-girlfriend's Facebook profile picture to sexually explicit image jailed for over four years
Samuel Bishop was also ordered to pay £2,000 compensation after he sent the image to eight people in a private message.
A man who changed his ex-girlfriend's Facebook profile picture to a sexually graphic image more than four years after they broke up has been jailed.
Samuel Bishop, 29, pleaded guilty to breaking new revenge porn laws and was jailed for 40 weeks at Dudley Magistrates' Court.
He was also ordered to pay £2,000 compensation to his victim.
West Midlands Police said Bishop, of Hamilton Drive, Wordsley, broke up with his partner in September 2011 after a three-and-a-half year relationship.
The woman realised in May this year her profile picture had been changed to an explicit image taken by Bishop when they were together, and officers said the picture had also been sent to eight people in a private message.
Detective Constable Rob Brookes of West Midlands Police said: "We carried out checks on the woman's Facebook account and realised that a different computer had been used to log in to the woman's profile.
"This quickly led us to Bishop who refused to comment when we interviewed him.
"As such, the motive for his actions or his timing of the incident have never been truly understood. I can only assume that he never got over the break up and in an act of revenge, decided to access her Facebook account and post the images."
