Man's body found washed up on beach in Co Down
The body of an unidentified man in his 50s was discovered washed up on a beach in Co Down yesterday.
Police last night issued an appeal for the public's help in identifying the man, described by a spokesman as heavy-set, balding and unshaven.
The body was spotted by a walker around 200 yards south of the famous 12 arches bridge - close to the high water mark on Murlough Beach near Newcastle, at around 3.30pm yesterday afternoon.
Both the PSNI and the Coastguard were called to the beach immediately after the body was discovered. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was removed in order for a post-mortem examination to be carried out.
It's believed the body had not been in the water for a long time.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the PSNI on 101.
