Miliband reshuffles election team

Ed Miliband has moved to bolster his team amid consternation in Labour circles about the party's prospects for winning the general election.

Three rising stars from the 2010 intake - Gloria de Piero, Jonathan Ashworth, and Toby Perkins - have been appointed as deputies to campaign chief Douglas Alexander.

Mr Alexander, who is also shadow foreign secretary, said: "Gloria, Toby, and Jonathan have all contributed significantly to our work in recent months and I'm pleased to now formalise their places within Labour's election team.

"I'm delighted to appoint them to key roles as Labour gears up to fight the next general election."

The trio will carry out their new duties alongside existing front bench roles.

Shadow cabinet office minister Michael Dugher will remain in charge of the party's overall communications strategy.
