Missing girl seen with stranger

Detectives searching for a missing schoolgirl have released a picture of her with a unknown man on a city street late last night.

The CCTV image shows 12-year-old Hungarian national Evelin Mezei with him at around 10.30pm, an hour after she was last seen by her mother in east London, Scotland Yard said.

Evelin came to the UK six months ago and has never gone missing before.

Scotland Yard has issued an appeal for information about the man.

Inspector Lewis Hastie, said: "At this stage we have no evidence to suggest that Evelin has come to any harm but she is a young girl, new to this country and clearly vulnerable. We urgently need to find her and, at this time, this man is the last person we know who has had contact with Evelin."

The image shows Evelin, who lived with her family in east London, with the man in Romford Road in Stratford, close to Grove Crescent Road, where her mother had last seen her at 9.30pm, police said.

She was described by police as white, with a large build. She was wearing a red jacket and black leggings with white stars on the legs and carrying a black and red schoolbag-style bag when last seen.
