Murder hunt after woman found dead

A murder hunt has been launched after a woman was found dead in the New Forest.

Detectives say they believe the woman, who has not been named, was tending her horse shortly before she was killed.

Her body was found in a field in Lyndhurst Road, Beaulieu, in the heart of the Hampshire beauty spot, just after 4.40pm yesterday afternoon.

Detectives from the major investigation team said they are treating the death as suspicious and are appealing for witnesses.

A post-mortem examination is being carried out.

Detective superintendent Paul Barton, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are treating the discovery of a woman's body in Beaulieu as murder.

"I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area of Lyndhurst Road, Beaulieu yesterday between 2pm and 5pm to contact us."

He added: "We will be increasing our patrols in the area but I want to remind the community that crimes of this nature are extremely rare."
