Murder probe into baby's death

A murder investigation has been launched after a 10 month-old baby boy died in hospital.

The baby was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Barnet, north London, on Friday August 29, and medical staff called police. The boy was transferred to a central London hospital later that day, but he died on Monday, September 1, Scotland Yard said.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday. She was later bailed pending further inquires to a date in mid October.

The Metropolitan Police said the baby's next of kin have been informed, and o fficers are still investigating exactly how the boy died.

A post-mortem was carried out at Great Ormond Street Hospital, but doctors have not given a formal cause of death and further tests will be conducted.

Detectives from the homicide and major crime command are investigating the case.
