Music greats to wow festival fans
Some of the biggest names in music will perform for tens of thousands of fans today in a weekend-long festival.
One Direction will open BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend event taking place at Glasgow Green.
Up to 50,000 revellers will attend the festival over two days to watch a line-up including Coldplay and Calvin Harris.
A warm-up event took place last night as 14,000 dance music fans got the celebrations under way at an outdoor party in the city's George Square.
Pete Tong, Tiesto, Danny Howard and Martin Garrix took to the stage as well as other Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac and Zane Lowe.
Pharrell, Bastille, Jake Bugg, Lily Allen and Ed Sheeran will also perform on the main stage today.
Acts including Example, Lorde, Twin Atlantic and Bombay Bicycle Club will be on the In New Music We Trust stage.
Speaking after performing at last night's event, Tong said: ""It's always a great thrill and great honour. I don't think we've ever gone on a full-out manner on a Friday for the dance and electronic DJs.
"It's good and nice to be able to do it in the middle of the city. Usually the history of BBC Radio 1 Weekends have been on the outskirts in a field somewhere. It's unique. We won't forget this one.
"Glasgow crowds have always been noisy, that's never changed from the days of the rave scene.
"Seeing Calvin (Harris) will be special. I'm sure there will be an incredible reaction."
Kings of Leon, The Vamps, John Newman, Rita Ora, The 1975, Tinie Tempah and Paolo Nutini will all perform on the Sunday, with Katy Perry closing the festival.
