Richard Barnes, the former deputy mayor of London, claims that his Facebook profile was hacked after naked photographs were uploaded to it on Wednesday evening.

The photographs featuring a man's naked torso and crotch area were uploaded to the social networking website for all his followers to see. They have now been deleted.

It was reported that Barnes, who was Boris Johnson’s deputy, may have enabled the Facebook iPhone app’s photo syncing feature. However even with syncing turned on, users still have to tell Facebook whether or not they want to share photos.

The Conservative member is adamant that his account washacked.

Tory Barnes told London's Metro Online: "[It was] utterly and totally a mistake. I’ve been hacked. I’ve no idea. I’m annoyed and shaking with anger.

"I’m a 65-year-old gay man on his own. It’s not the sort of thing I do. Do you really think I would be that f****** stupid after 30 years in politics?"

Barnes said he was alerted to the images by a friend. He said everything was now ‘sorted out’.

Some followers drew parallels with the Weinergate scandal in the United States that involved New York mayor candidate Anthony Weiner's naked photos. Weiner pic: Furore over Democrat in underpants photo

During the 2012 London riots Barnes was accused of making racist joke.

He was reported to have said: "Why did police put Persil in the water cannons? To stop the colours running?"

In July of 2011, when asked about the cost of redevelopment work at Euston station he was filmed licking his finger then checking the wind direction before saying: "Are they like most Irish builders saying it's going to be roughly that? Are we working on estimates?"

Mr banes strenuously denied accusations of racism.
