New parental leave guidance issued

New guidance has been issued to explain moves to allow couples to share maternity or adoption leave from next month.

The conciliation service Acas said it wanted to help workers prove they are eligible as well as advising employers how to deal with requests fairly.

Sir Brendan Barber, who chairs Acas, said: "As workplace experts, we want to make sure that both employers and employees are prepared for these new rights."

Around 285,000 working couples are expected to be eligible to share maternity or adoption leave from April 5.
