Paddling pool death of boy probed
A two-year-old boy has died after being found unconscious in a paddling pool.
Police and ambulance crews were called to a house in Southampton on Wednesday evening after the youngster was discovered not breathing.
He was taken to Southampton General Hospital, but medical staff were unable to save him.
A South Central Ambulance Service spokeswoman said two ambulances and an ambulance supervisor were sent to respond to reports of a young child in a life-threatening condition.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: "Police attended a house in Hatley Road, Bitterne, Southampton, following the death of a two-year-old boy.
"At about 7.40pm, police were alerted by South Central Ambulance Service, after the child was found unconscious and not breathing in a paddling pool.
"Despite being rushed to Southampton General Hospital, medical staff could not save him and he died.
"Officers from the constabulary's specialist investigations department are currently investigating.
"The death is not currently being treated as suspicious."
