Pageantry and pomp as Queen marks birthday
The Irish Guards led the Queen's birthday celebrations for the first time in eight years as the monarch marked her official birthday with the pomp and pageantry of the Trooping the Colour ceremony.
The Queen watched the centuries-old military spectacle of might, splendour and precision marching on Horse Guards Parade on Saturday.
Earlier, the Queen issued a message reflecting on the very sombre national mood following the Grenfell Tower block inferno and the recent terrorist attacks in Manchester and London.
Saturday was the first time the Irish Guards had trooped the Colour in front of Her Majesty since 2009.
Since last honoured with leading the parade, the regiment has been deployed on operations in Afghanistan and Cyprus.
