Pair arrested in baby murder probe

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a five-month-old baby.

West Midlands Police said the baby girl was taken to hospital from an address in Perry Barr, Birmingham, early yesterday after reportedly suffering breathing difficulties.

A police spokesman said a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman had been arrested on suspicion of murder after the baby died in hospital yesterday afternoon.

The spokesman said officers were called to an address in the Perry Barr area shortly before 1am yesterday.

The baby's death is being treated as suspicious and a post-mortem examination is due to take place later today.
