Parents did not know of torture

The parents of a teenage boy tortured to death "for being a witch" did not realise what was going on despite a "huge number" of calls being made to them, the Old Bailey has been told.

Kelly Bamu, 21, said she and brother Kristy, 15, were forced to tell their mother and father in Paris that they were witches.

"My mother didn't even understand anything I was telling her," said Kelly.

"I was told to say I had confessed to being a witch. I told her a story about clothing and a doll.

"I made it up because I was fed up with being hit."

Kelly said her older sister Magalie and her partner Eric Bukubi had told her to say she was a witch, and Eric had sat next to her with a clenched fist.

She added: "There was a huge number of calls. Eric said to my parents 'If you are not going to pick up the children, I am going to kill them'."

The prosecution say the brother and sister and a younger sister were attacked for four days at the couple's flat in Forest Gate, east London, while on holiday over Christmas, last year.

Kristy was hit with various objects including a hammer, lying around the flat which was being redecorated, and drowned in a bath after begging to die, it is alleged.

Bamu and Bukubi, both 28, deny murder and causing actual bodily harm to the two sisters.
