Police have launched a search and rescue operation with a difference - after one of its youngest recruits went missing.

Meg the police puppy vanished from her handler's home in the Clevedon area of Somerset between 7am and 9am today.

Avon and Somerset Police are particularly concerned as the seven-month-old Belgian Malinois breed is scared of fireworks.

She has a black muzzle, black ears and has a short coat which is foxy brown in colour. She is wearing a red collar.

Meg is currently undergoing assessment for use as a general purpose police dog.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
