Poynter crowned king of the jungle
McFly bass player Dougie Poynter has been crowned king of the jungle after beating Mark Wright in the final of ITV1's I'm A Celebrity reality show.
The musician beat the odds, as well as The Only Way Is Essex personality Wright, to win I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!
But after 22 days together in the jungle he and Wright, both 24, left as firm friends, with Essex boy Wright declaring: "There couldn't be a better winner than this man here. He deserves it so much, he is the nicest guy in the whole world."
William Hill had installed Wright as the 2/5 odds-on favourite to claim victory, with Poynter the 15/8 outsider, but he surprised the bookies to win the 2011 series.
Poynter himself seemed shocked by the news, saying: "I'm lost for words, my mouth is so dry. These have been the best couple of weeks of my life, I wish everybody in the world could experience that."
The pair's last day in the jungle together seemed to seal their "bro-mance" - they took part in their final Bushtucker trial, dubbed The Final Party, to play for their last supper in the jungle. After devouring the dinner, the pair settled down to their final night in camp, cuddling up before heading to bed.
The night seemed to seal their friendship, with Wright declaring: "I couldn't wish to share the night with anyone else, Dougie is a special person".
Speaking to presenters Ant and Dec before the results announcement, Poynter admitted it would have been hard to get to the final without each other, while Wright said: "When he was in the other camp, I was like, 'I want Dougie back in the camp'."
But Wright did hint there might be a future for him and model Emily Scott, who shared steamy moments in the jungle. "Emily is a very good-looking girl and a lovely girl to be around," he said. "We will see when I get out, she is a nice girl."
And when asked if his invitation to her to visit Essex still stands, he said: "She can come to Essex, we can hang out, everyone can come to Essex."
