Remembering Princess Diana and other milestones for the Queen in 2017

By PA Reporter

Next year will see the 20th anniversary of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, a big step for Prince George and a poignant, personal milestone for the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

We look ahead to what the year has in store for the Royal family:

ANOTHER CAMBRIDGE BABY?

The Duchess of Cambridge turns 35 in January and is thought to be keen to have a total of three children. Could 2017 see the announcement of another baby?

PALACE BUILDING WORK

In April, a major 10-year revamp begins at Buckingham Palace, with officials saying the essential work is needed to avoid the risk of "catastrophic building failure" at the Queen's main residence.

An online petition was launched calling on the royals to pay for the £369 million refurbishment, instead of taxpayers footing the bill.

PIPPA WALKS DOWN THE AISLE

Kate's sister Pippa Middleton is marrying her financier boyfriend James Matthews in May. Prince George and Princess Charlotte are expected to be page boy and flower girl, while the Duchess could give a reading, but is thought unlikely to be a bridesmaid.

HARRY and MEGHAN

Royal watchers will be hoping Prince Harry proposes to Suits star Meghan Markle after a whirlwind romance.

Royal weddings usually take place quickly so Harry could be hitched by the end of the year.

REMEMBERING DIANA

William and Harry will be honouring Diana, Princess of Wales, as they mark the 20th anniversary of her death in a Paris car crash in August. Kensington Palace will stage a Diana: Her Fashion Story exhibition from February and a memorial garden called The White Garden will be ready in the spring.

GEORGE STARTS SCHOOL

The future king begins school in September, with William and Kate expected to send him to a private school.

QUEEN AND PHILIP'S PLATINUM ANNIVERSARY

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. They were married in Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947.

Due to turn 91 and 96 on their next birthdays, they are expected to mark the occasion close to home.
