Rita's One Show outfit causes stir
Fans of The One Show have leapt to its defence after more than 400 people complained about Rita Ora's cleavage when she appeared on the programme in a suit with a plunging neckline.
The singer, who joins the BBC talent show The Voice as a judge this year, was a guest on The One Show on Monday night along with her fellow coaches.
The early evening progamme, hosted by Matt Baker and Alex Jones, responded to the complaints on its Facebook page, saying: "We're sorry to those of you who were offended by Rita Ora's choice of outfit on yesterday's show. If we had been consulted on it we would have requested she wore something more suitable for 7pm."
But many viewers logged on to the page to complain about the complainers.
One of them, Dougie Knight, said: "Grow up!!! Rita looked stunning! BBC gone PC mad!!", while another, Tim Worrall, said: "Looks ok to me ... there's worse things going on in the world to complain about than Rita's outfit."
A BBC spokesman said: "The One Show allows guests to choose their own attire and pop stars often opt for something glamorous or striking. We didn't feel that Rita's outfit would be outside of most viewers' expectations but we appreciate that tastes vary."
It is not the first time the show has got into trouble over low-cut clothing. Communications watchdog Ofcom had to get involved after viewers complained about the show's then host Holly Willoughby's choice of dress in the 2013 final.
More than 100 people complained about the presenter's racy black lace maxi dress, but Ofcom did not investigate.
The BBC apologised and Willoughby's This Morning co-host Phillip Schofield leapt to her defence, saying: "139 complaints over Holly's gorgeous Voice dress. Let's hope those outraged on behalf of their kids don't take them to the beach this summer ... God forbid they might see a woman in a bikini before 9pm and be traumatised by the sight of her cleavage!''
