Police have warned the public not to approach a scarred prisoner who has gone on the run after fleeing an open prison.

Scott Lawson, 28, disappeared from HMP Springhill in Buckinghamshire on Friday, Thames Valley Police said.

Six-foot Lawson, from Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, has a scar on the left-hand side of his head, officers said.

Detective Sergeant Jim Forrest said: "Officers are currently working to locate Lawson who has absconded from HMP Springhill.

"I would advise members of the public not to approach him if they see him but to instead call 101 as soon as possible. Please contact us if you have any information as to Lawson's whereabouts or see anyone matching his description."

Lawson is described as being clean-shaven with short dark hair and a large build.
